I'm 45 year old cyclist from Iceland. 10 years ago I was 147 kg now I can call my self healthy, happy and free
My 10 year "better health" anniversary
2021 is a very special year for me. It's the 10 year anniversary were I celebrate my 10 year of "better health" and look back on my 120 pound journey. Like every year I set my self new goals, thank for this great time and look forward for the future
In the year of 2010 I was 322 pounds and I thought I was living the life. eating what I wanted, drinking and no exercise at all. Luckely for future me I took the decision in early 2011 to change my ways and slowly but surly I got my health back and started to enjoy life in more healthy way. I started to ride my bike to work one or two days a week and soon
To day I'm so grateful for that decision and thankful to all the good people around me that supported me along the way

How I lost 120 pounds (55kg) and kept it off.
This is what I've learned in my 10 years of turning my life around. It's one thing to loose weight and another thing to keep it off and yet another thing to keep motivated. Of course I've made mistakes and in most cases I've learned something
1. Make the decision. For me was to make the decision and want to change may life. I was ready to make the appropriate sacrifices and work for it
2. Make goals, big and small. I always try to set my self big goals and I always set my self a reason for each goal. So if I set my self a goal for next year to be 87kg it is so I will be faster up the hills on my winter training trip to Tenerife
3. Patience. If you have been overweight for some years then you can expect equal amount of time to turn your life around again.
4. Stability is key. With sleep, with exercise, with food, with recovery, with work. Stability is very important
5. Fat burning. Understand that your body's main goal is to survive, and for that your body stores fat and since we never put our body to the test he doesn't like to burn this hard earned fat
6. Clean Food. I try to eat as clean as posable, I don't exclude anything but no processed meat and no ready meals. My first meal of the day is Sheldon Cooper favorite type of oatmeal, plain
7. Outside is free. I ride my bike preferably outside since it gives me more back than any indoor training. Even if the weather is bad it's just so rewarding.
8. No food rewards. I newer look at food as reward.
9. Sleep, always get good quality sleep, 8 hours is very good, go to bead at the same time and wake up the same time
10. Fasting. This is very good for me to reset my body and give some organs break. Also good for cycling to teach your body to ride on fat
My journey
2011 - Trip to Denmark
In 2011 I starded out good but as months passed by and my weight was not going off as fast I wanted I almost gave up. My friend who lives in Denmark suggested to me that It would be great idea to come visit him and ride from the airport to him. I bought the airplane ticked and started to feel more motivated to ride me into better form so my trip to Denmark would be more fun and joyful. I rode total of 1000km in 12 days, then 136kg.
In 2021 I will be celebrating my 10 years of better health. how ever the fight is not over and to keep me motivated my plan is to visid my friend in Denmark again next summer, if Covid allow
In 2011 I did my trip with Dual Sport bike with rear bike rack and paniers. Big tent. In 2021 I want to ride my cx bike or gravel bike with smaller and lighter bike packing bags, I want to explore more of the less travelled roads like Hervejen and experience even more. Let's hope for the best.

Make Goals
The first thing I did was make goals. My biggest goal was just to be able to ride my bike. Secondary goal was to ride my bike for long distances and explore and far far future goal was to win a competition in my age category when I turned 40 years old. Then it is the reason to set my self some goals. Like if the goal is to loose another 2 kg it is so I can climb the local hill faster. I set my self goal on Strava to be faster up the hill and I work on it. This is why I think cycling was the sport for me, I can be so focused on my weight for the purpose of being faster on my bike.
In 2015 I was 210 pounds, or 95kg. I had lost 55 kg and was feeling good. I went to Mallorca in the spring for cycling with my cycling club and made more and more friends. More and more motivation to keep going. I was an good team and together we won the WOW Cyclothon, 1340km relay race around Iceland. I was the heaviest cyclist on the team and they used my for the flats, were I was very strong. I also won the Kia Golden circle, 106 km race in south Iceland. Mostly flat with some small hills that I could survive over. The final sprint was downhill with 300m sprint out of a roundabout and I sprinted to the win, 39 years old one year earlier than my goal.
